"When I look at what Vermont has done for me, I can’t give up enough in response to Vermont; I feel such a debt of gratitude to this state that I want to do everything that I can to restore decency, and get us back on the path of being the little state that can show the rest of the country how well democracy can work."

May 3rd, 2018 - Christine Announces Union Contract for Campaign Staff

"Christine for Vermont is proud to be the first campaign in Vermont to unionize staff. The contract between Christine for Vermont and the Campaign Workers Guild was unanimously ratified on May 1st, 2018. The organizing effort was part of Christine's belief in leading by example.

Democratic campaigns have long run on supporting the working class while failing to live up to those values. Having a unionized staff protects workers in an industry that heavily relies on a temporary workforce.

“To me, the contract, and voluntary recognition of the union represents our commitments to our workforce, and to all working Vermonters,” said Cameron Russell, Campaign Manager.

“While running on a platform of raising the minimum wage, universal healthcare, and paid family leave, I could not speak authentically to these issues without providing these benefits to my staff,” said Christine Hallquist. “Unions are a critical part of providing economic security to all employees.”

As unions remain under attack around the country and in Vermont, workers continue to see a loss of protections and benefits.

“The union means I will get fair compensation for the long hours and demanding work that campaigns require,” said David Glidden, Deputy Finance Director. “It is time that campaigns walk the walk, which this campaign is definitely doing. This is easily the best work environment I have had on a campaign.”
